Carnal Crystal began following my husband's unplanned three-week stay in Saudi Arabia, due to his passport being stolen on a Canadian-American Trade Mission in Riyadh. This was the third time he had had his passport stolen, so instead of sympathy, I decided to send him a little humor. Because of the social nature of Saudi Arabia, my husband was treated as a single man and did not see any women for the entirety of his stay, I sent him silhouettes of Kama Sutra positions. He received at least four of these before my emails and texts were blocked. My husband has a wonderful sense of humor, so when he finally returned, he suggested that I should start engraving Kama Sutra positions onto wine glasses as a naughty gift idea. Given that my engraving business involves engraving crystal stemware and decanters for very conservative corporate clients, I thought this rather risqué. However, I considered his suggestion, thought it fun, created a sample set, snapped some photos, and launched my "Just a little wicked" crystal wine glasses on Etsy. What started as a jest has turned into a playful, erotic and sensual addition to my otherwise conservative engraving business!
